So last night we left the house at 5:30 PM to drive beyond Indianapolis to Deer Creek for Tom Petty!
woohoo, traffic getting into the place was crazy since it was a sold out show and the place holds 24,000 people.
Bathroom lines were crazy. Show was amazing (will post in other thread) and since we know he always closes with American Girl, and it'd be a long time getting out of the parking lot, we started to walk out of the place when American Girl started. I'm never one to leave a show early, but we wanted a jump start since we had a 2 plus hour drive home..
we heard all of American Girl as we were walking back, got to car and out of lot fairly easy. Got back to highway and made great time. shooting for a 2:00 am arrival time at home. Let the dog out.
There was some lane closures that slowed us a bit in Indiana. Back over the bridge into downtown Louisville, 10 minutes to home, had to pee like crazy.
2:20 AM, 3 miles from our house, highway comes to a complete standstill!!! all cars ahead and behind just stopped, parking lot on the highway. Drunk girls get out of car in front of us and dance in highway with their shoes off. WTF is going on? really have to pee.
2:30 AM, went on waze and read that there was a terrible motorcycle accident, driver is dead on side of road, prepare for 2 hours of this road being closed!!!!!! 2 hours?!?! Then I read the accident happened at 12:45 so maybe that just means 2:45, whew.
3:00 AM, still have to pee. Cars have turned off their engines and lights. hundreds of cars and people just stopped on the highway. Dumb ass people start driving in reverse on the shoulder! Last exit was several miles back. Gates blocking the median so there's no possible to cross over to other side of highway and get off. I get out of car and pee on highway in front of our car where nobody could see me.
3:30 AM, poor Grizzy at home, hope he's ok. we've now been gone for 10 hours and in the car for 3 1/2. We're very tired. Luckily we had brought extra water and snacks for the ride home. Keep checking waze, not sure why they can't clear a lane 3 hours after an accident to let some people through.
4:00 AM, WTF!?! we're still sitting in the same spot. people are walking, leaving cars on the shoulder, cops now trying to get through and can't. Hopefully to direct us the fuck out of here!!! Again, we are 3 miles from our house!!! (&^$^&*@!!!!
4:10 AM, we start moving. cars have been stranded in the middle of the lanes and people have to go in shoulder and get around them.
4:15 AM. Home!! Grizzy is just fine.
