Bob Dylan thread

Two of my favorite Dylan quotes:

Here’s the thing with me and the religious thing. This is the flat-out truth: I find the religiosity and philosophy in the music. I don’t find it anywhere else. Songs like “Let Me Rest on a Peaceful Mountain” or “I Saw the Light” — that’s my religion. I don’t adhere to rabbis, preachers, evangelists, all of that. . . . The songs are my lexicon. I believe the songs.

Well, you have to understand that I’m not a melodist… My songs are either based on old Protestant hymns or Carter Family songs or variations of the blues form. What happens is, I’ll take a song I know and simply start playing it in my head. That’s the way I meditate. A lot of people will look at a crack on the wall and meditate, or count sheep or angels or money or something, and it’s a proven fact that it’ll help them relax. I don’t meditate on any of that stuff. I meditate on a song. I’ll be playing Bob Nolan’s “Tumbling Tumbleweeds,” for instance, in my head constantly—while I’m driving a car or talking to a person or sitting around or whatever. People will think they are talking to me and I’m talking back, but I’m not. I’m listening to a song in my head. At a certain point, some words will change and I’ll start writing a song.

Anyone hear anything about what the next Bootleg Series release will be? There seems to be a new one released around the Christmas season each year.

#126

They’ve been moving along somewhat chronologically lately. Maybe Street Legal era?

A lot of discussion about the Infidels session at expecting rain.

Gotta say 80’s Dylan is my least favorite. But, it’s still better than no Dylan. I’ll take what I can get. And there seems to be plenty outtakes from that era. I’ll buy whatever they choose to release.

And other than Blind Willie McTell and Foot of Pride, I doubt that there’s too much great stuff out there. What would be really great is if they could get rid of that truly awful 80s drum sound from that album. There’s nothing I hate more than that drum sound in the world. It’s worse than Trump.

Fucking 80’s production values. That drum sound & Casio keyboards.

It’s all Hugh Padgham’s fault. He’s a fucking war criminal, as far as I’m concerned.

#132

Just because.

New stress reliever I have found: playing The Man in Me on guitar after I finish work for the day.

#135

I just adore the 2009 version with Donnie on trumpet.

#136

thanks for this, very nice!

Hot dog. This is fantastic. The band, Bob, the sound. To think this was around the time people were complaining that they couldn’t tell which song he was doing. Highway 61 is off the chain. https://youtu.be/YBwL2agcZa4
