Top-10 "Desert Island" Albums.

Beth Orton - Central Reservation
David Bowie - Young Americans
Frank Sinatra - Watertown
Devo - Q: Are We Not Men? A: We Are Devo!
Beck - Midnite Vultures
The Smiths - Strangeways, Here We Come
Tom Waits - Blue Valentine
Ryan Adams - Love Is Hell
Prince - Dirty Mind
Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds - The Boatman’s Call

i don’t know what i was expecting, but nearly all of those selections surprised me for you. all great picks though (except for Devo… take a lap.)

Here are my picks from June 1993, as printed in Pulse magazine.
Not sure I’d make that many changes in the last 25 years… maybe the Rockin’ Sidney I was really into Zydeco/Cajun at the time.

The heading they gave my picks came from my descriptions I added in the letter, saying that Remain in Light had just the right amount of Enosifications.

I guess Whiskeytown - Strangers Almanac might replace that Rockin’ Sidney one if I’m pressed.

I could listen to dead Europe '72 over and over again for 4 months straight and still not get tired of it.

I’m Predictable…so, none of this will shock any of you…in no particular order:

  1. JB - Running On Empty
  2. GAI - Empty Northern Hemisphere
  3. The Boss - Darkness
  4. Ryan Adams - Love Is Hell
  5. Whiskeytown - Strangers
  6. Brandi Carlile - The Story
  7. Stones - Exile On Main St tie w/ Sticky Fingers
  8. Steve Earle - Guitar Town
  9. Fleetwood Mac - Rumours
  10. Townes Van Zandt - Nashville Sessions

what the fuck dude?

where is your list

Yeah, Cannonball, where is your list?

And you can fuck off with your Devo hate

Europe 72–the Complete Tour.

That’s probably 10 discs right there.

Born To Run
Velvet Underground - 69 Live
Allman Brothers - Live at Fillmore East
CCR - Cosmo’s Factory
Husker Du - Flip Your Wig
Neil Young - Decade
Sticky Fingers
Drive-By Truckers - The Dirty South
MMJ - Okonokos

I really tried to find something more recent than Okonokos, but just couldn’t put anything in my Top 10. Even that was a stretch. Probably should have put the Sun Sessions in it’s place. I don’t think music sucks these days - just hard to think of anything having the legs and the overall quality of Sticky Fingers etc. Southeastern…maybe.

i wanted isbell on my list too

i might have to switch out brandi carlile for neil young or isbell

but that damn voice of hers suits island life

If I had done my list today I would have likely swapped out Allman Bros. Live at the Fillmore for Layla…

Frat Rock Vol. 1-10.

or Now that’s What I Call Music Vol. 1-10.

can i bring the soundtrack to Forrest Gump to my island???

Bob Marley - Exodus
Bright Eyes - The People’s Key
Jenny Lewis - The Voyager
Rolling Stones - Sticky Fingers
Jimmy Buffett - Floridays
The Gaslight Anthem - Get Hurt
Modest Mouse - We Were Dead Before the Ship Even Sank
Jackson Browne - Late for the Sky
Band of Horses - Mirage Rock
Beth Orton - Comfort of Strangers

I much prefer Sticky Fingers to Exile. But I imagine I’m in the minority.

i’m with you…i put exile on my desert island but sticky fingers gets me wet.

jimmy buffett should be on the short list for albums to burn on a bonfire and roast a marshmallow with.
