Billy Strings in WA last night:

Nicely done

Yeah. I’ll be looking for that show. He covered many songs honoring the location.

I love when bands do that.

A cool project from the guitarist in Stone Temple Pilots (Dean DeLeo):

The whole album is really good; mostly instrumental

I saw them at Fayetteville Roots fest a few weeks back. Not sure if it was just an off night or if they’ve gone a totally different direction — but we left about half way through the set — not a single MO song and didn’t really care for the new stuff. The vibe was so strange - my friend asked if they’d joined a cult or something. Hoping it was just an off night, because I really used to love that band.

Stephen Fretwell - Embankment.
If you like this, I’ve just put the album ‘Busy Guy’ in the box!

#2944

Stephen Fretwell is great. Really pleased he’s started making music again. Magpie is a lovely album as well.

#2945

That’s a disappointment – I too liked Mandolin Orange a lot; I think the new stuff is good, but I can see where MO was perhaps more interesting.

Okay, you have to buckle up for this one – but it completely blows Will Farrell’s “Eurovision” song contest parody out of the water: “My Barbecue Cart” (yes, that is the actual title).
I honestly believe that this is the greatest (and only) love song centered on a barbecue cart.
To understand its’ awesomeness and kitschy savageness, you have to understand the mock-passionate lyrics in Swedish (see below – it is pure poetry), but you get fairly good translation simply through google translate. I should perhaps stress that these are the actual lyrics and that the song was actually performed at the Swedish Eurovision competition in 2004 by an actual pop group, who obviously has a great sense of dead-pan humor.
This is like ABBA running on hallucinogenics and pure irony – perhaps I should have posted this in the culinary section, though.

I remember that day so well
I remember it like yesterday
We walked through the city
and you had flowers in your hair
We met a little girl
she had lottery tickets in her hand
I gave her money out of my pocket
you drew a rivet, and yes, I won

My barbecue cart, My barbecue cart
of wood, sheet metal and plastic
today that’s all I have left from you
It makes me remember that love
and all the happiness we once shared

I remember your sweet laugh
yes, I remember it like yesterday
In the wonderful night
how I shed a tear of joy for

My barbecue cart, My barbecue cart
of wood, sheet metal and plastic
today that’s all I have left from you
It makes me remember that love
and all the happiness we once shared

When grief becomes too severe
So I go out and drive
my barbecue cart through town
and remember our walk
Yes, when it gets cold and autumn
so I seek my consolation with

My barbecue cart, My barbecue cart
of wood, sheet metal and plastic
today that’s all I have left from you
It makes me remember that love
and all happiness we once shared

My barbecue cart, My barbecue cart
of wood, sheet metal and plastic
today that’s all I have left from you
It makes me remember that love
and all happiness we once shared
all happiness we once shared
